Travel Declaration and History

A reminder to log into GESS portal to declare any travel intent first and few days later, any travel history.

I suppose most of us would be at home mugging for the upcoming examination. I am marking the Sec 4E5NA Prelim Paper, and at the same time, monitoring my P3-er. I hope you spend good time studying, in the company of your family, if not a good and true friend...someone who wouldn't distract you from doing serious studying!

While I look forward to my marking and coaching camp, I hope you look forward to your self-designed, self-imposed STUDY CAMP!!!

EOY Examination TimeTable and Study Schedule

Please keep your parents updated with regards to EOY Examination Timetable.

Take the upcoming long weekend, followed by two public holidays to start preparing for your examination. You should first start with a study timetable.

Set aside everyday an hour or two to study. Spend more time over the weekend to do intensive revision. In mapping your study schedule, keep some time for your daily homework. Your timetable should include short intervals of reading periods ( perhaps about 15 minutes).

If you start this weekend, you have 4 1/2 weeks left to EOY Examination.

Strive for value-added results! Onward!

June Holiday Homework Pictures and Questions

Those who have yet to e-mail their pictures and questions, which was due like 9 weeks ago, I will allow you to submit by next Wednesday 31 August.

I have been busy and have yet to assess these. You will have another few days to be so. The 3 pictures and questions will be included in your CA2.

Final Deadline is 31 August. I will be logging in during the Sept Holiday to assess these.

As for the readings given during the June Holidays, we will leave them as they are, as the EL Curriculum was changed and modified during the June Holidays. Nevertheless, those who read Shooting an Elephant and A Thousand Years of Good Prayers, will surely agree with me that the stories were thought-provoking and poignant.

Perhaps we can leave the stories to the end of the year, during extended curriculum, to discuss and study.

GESS LOVES READING DAY 25 August 2011

Tomorrow is GESS LOVES READING DAY!

NLB will be bringing in lots of good fiction books. We will go down to the canteen at 8:30am to start borrowing books.

Everyone is expected to borrow at least one book for the Sept Holiday. You will write a book review based on the book you have borrowed.

Tomorrow during assembly, NLB will present a skit based on the book, HOLES by Louis Sachar. It's a great read. Google and find out more about the story.

Jeremy TPI 18 August 2011

Dear Jeremy,

Thank you for sharing more about yourself. I realised from that session that you are indeed a considerate and kind person, besides being smart. I like your cheerfulness and open outlook; you do seem like someone who has inner strength and peace. I believe BB has been a good experience for you, and that you have found good friends and company there. May you strive for all that we had discussed in that session. Remember the foldable item is all you need, and a healthier and closer relationship with your sibling will be a great joy to your parent.

Yours sincerely,
Mrs Chua

A New Start - a Self-Directed Learner, a Team Player, above all a Charitable Person

Despite the disappointment and what seemed like set-back, the recent days have gotten me thinking quite a bit. Perhaps I have been too lenient, too harsh, too negligent, too complacent, too busy, too tired ...

It's ok, I tell myself. Let's start again.

So my students of 3H, let's start again, a clean slate...let's lift up and live our School Creed, one which will be with and within you for the rest of your life.

This is our school

Let peace dwell here

Let there be contentment

Let love abide here

Love of one another

Love of mankind

Love of life itself

And love of God

Let us remember

That as many hands build a house

So many hearts make a school

By Mr. P.F. Aroozoo

In Recent Days...

To my students,

In recent days, I have been feeling down and disappointed.

It started right after the holidays. I sensed some dissonance in the air.

If it is not a young boy who is in a state of denial, then it's a young girl who doesn't believe in currency. Then there are the few who have perhaps issues with the political state of affairs, and have in recent times found good times to form new allegiance and alliance, believing in the game of number play. Then there are the few who live their lives in hidden truths, blinded by fear and timidity, who believe so absolutely no one can really see their veils...and yet another lot who believe they should live their lives in abusive amusement and slashing truths, dinning into the public airways righteously, in hope perhaps to cleanse the injust, the ugly, the rejects, the scum of the earth, phew! phew! phew! we hear...and...of course the few youngful, neglected lot who believe the order of the day is to find favour with endless fantasy and fun.

Yet there is comfort in watching the quiet and discerning ones, who may seem uncertain and unknowing, but whose ways and dispositions speak of generosity, openness and anchorage. What's their anchorage? Perhaps they know who they truly are, accept who they truly are and love who they truly are.

Spend some quiet time on your own in the coming days, alright, young ones?

Choices - The Gift of Life

This is truly a good time to review the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, as leaders of SELF, OTHERS and COMMUNITY.

As mentioned in our EL lesson earlier, I would like you to read this week's reading article well. The articles on the three women, the article written by Mr David Brooks, Stephen Covey's write-up and of course the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.

There will be a written assignment in 2 - 3 weeks time on this. I hope to include this in your CA2.

Thank you,
Mrs Chua

Detention Week 6

A good number of you need to serve your detention. Please clear your detention obligation by the end of this week. It is really not an honour being on this WANTED list.

Remember lead oneself, before you can lead others.
