101 Things For Teens By Teens [ Community Involvement Project ]

Dear 3H-eeroians,

I have found an interesting Community Involvement Programme for some, if not most of you.

I want to encourage all of you to participate in this Event Project - 101 Things For Teens By Teens. The details is outlined below in the letter by Ms Kang, the Librarian from NLB Bukit Merah Branch. The deadline is 20 June, but I will ask the Librarian if the deadline can be extended to the end of 1st week of school. I know there will be some of you who will not be inclined to participate in such activities: video-production and workshop facilitation. As such not to worry, there will be opportunities for some of you, who will be creating and maintaining a BookCross@ GESS blog for our school. This, I will elaborate more when I see you when school reopens.

So do consider how you can participate in 101 Things For Teens By Teens, either to produce a video or conduct a workshop. Attendance on 27 June is not compulsory, especially if you know how to produce a video. In any case, you have lessons on that day.

At the same time, I need to highlight to you that there has been some changes to the theme for the video I intended for you to work on (as mentioned in my earlier posts)...this is completely a different video production..a more serious and academic type of video. Let's see if this video production is possible after all...it was meant to help you think and reflect better.

Videos, videos, videos...for our social media-savvy Heeroians : )
P.S. The holiday reading still stays...you need to really read them. There's an after-reading project as well.

Here's Ms Kang's letter on 101 Things For Teens By Teens...

101 Things For Teens By Teens:
A Teen Program by National Library Board (NLB)

As part of our wider efforts to engage teens and make learning fun and challenging, NLB is holding its annual Teen Signature Program in November 2011.  Through this program, we hope that the teens will gain new knowledge, and also have a higher sense of empowerment.

This year’s Teen Signature Program aims to showcase teens’ creativity and forte. Through the program, teens get to lead and learn from other teens. They will teach other teens different skills such as learning how to use Photoshop, hip hop dance, or scrapbooking. Selected works will be featured on our Y.O! blog, Facebook and YouTube.

This is a great opportunity for the teens to display their capabilities and leadership skills. At the same time, they get to pick up a new skill when they sign up for other activities taught by other teens. With the multitude of talents around, we would like to invite your good school to participate in this program. The different CCA clubs in your schools could take part in this program, such as the Library Club, Media Resource Club, Guitar Club, Modern Dance Society, Chess Club, and Judo Club etc.

This is no limit to the number of teams that each school can send in to participate in the program. Students can choose to participate either by submitting a YouTube video OR conduct a workshop in person. As an added incentive, we are giving away $1,500 worth of prizes for video entries!
